We evaluate each of our horses as individuals and meet their needs accordingly.
Their health and happiness are our top priorities.
Most horses require some level of rehabilitation upon entering our program. While we can and do handle cases of neglect or severe injury, often this rehabilitation process is simply a matter of identifying and treating sources of minor aches and pains that all athletes, human and equine, acquire over the course of their lives. And Thoroughbreds are nothing if not athletes!
Upon admittance, our horses are thoroughly evaluated by our regular veterinarians at SMEVS and TFB Equine, with more serious or specialized cases being referred to New Bolton Center.
The results of this evaluation, combined with other factors such as personality, history, and age, are what we consider when classifying a horse as an adoptable or permanent resident.
Adoptable horses will typically move into our retraining program based at Meadow Spring Farm, while permanent residents are moved into our sanctuary program at Six M Farm.
We couldn't accommodate the number of horses we do without our incredible boarding facilities and trainers. They are vital, not only to our operations, but to the wider equestrian community. We are proud that our work with Thoroughbreds helps to support their efforts and outreach.
Six M is the home of our sanctuary program, with most of our permanent residents residing there. Located in beautiful West River, MD, the farm is owned and managed by Lindy Clark.
Her empathy and gentle nature have made her almost a mother figure to many of our golden oldies and special needs cases. The horses are incredibly happy to know her, as are we!
Owned and managed by Ali Rawles and located in Oxford, PA, Meadow Spring is the home of our retraining and adoption programs. There's no shortage of opportunities and adventure there!
Many of our horses have found their true callings and forever homes thanks to Ali's endless patience and knowledge. The horses benefit greatly from her vast experience with the breed.
Thoroughbreds can excel in all disciplines, and Pastured Place is on a mission to prove it! From the regular trainers at Meadow Spring to amateur and professional trainers throughout the Mid-Atlantic, we place our horses with the people best suited to help them succeed as individuals.
Adoptable horses start with the basics and are slowly introduced to Eventing, Polo, Fox Hunting, Barrel Racing, and anything in between. We want to discover each horse's talent and pursue it, with a happy horse being the ideal result of all training or competition. Ultimately, we endeavor to place our horses in loving homes where they can shine as representatives of the breed, be it as competitor, companion, or both.
A horse is only as good as its trainer and rider are kind, and they play an essential role in preparing our horses for adoption. We're honored to give back to this community of riders through our annual RRP Thoroughbred Makeover sponsorship program.
